Black Oxide Activator 1 Quart (Makes 2.5 Gallons) Black Oxide Activator Certain hardened or specialized steels can prove challenging to blacken with our Black Oxide solution, only blackening to a grey color. Our Black Oxide Activator enhances the color and depth of the blackened finish on these alloys. Mix One Part Activator With Nine Parts Distilled Water in a plastic container. Immerse cleaned steel parts in the activator for 2-5 minutes, rinse, then proceed to blackening. Can be used at room temperature or heated to 120 deg F for an even greater activating effect. For Steel Parts Only – Not Stainless Steel or Iron.
